Connect Safe Water is a student-led initiative connected to the broader ConnectSTEM research ecosystem.
It grew from student interest in water quality, chemical testing, environmental health, and the practical question of how scientific investigation can help communities better understand the water around them.

Curiosity That Reached Beyond the Lab
Connect Safe Water developed from student scientific investigation into water quality. As students learned to test and analyze water, they recognized that the same skills could help the communities around them better understand their own water sources.
That connection between classroom research and real-world relevance shaped the initiative’s direction. Water-testing activities and educational outreach grew out of the same scientific interest, rather than from a separate program.
The initiative reflects ConnectSTEM’s research-to-impact model: scientific skills and questions can extend into community education and student leadership.
Documented Activities
Water Sampling & Testing
Students collect water samples from local sources and use chemical test methods to measure indicators of water quality.
Data & Observation
Results are recorded and compared so students can observe patterns and discuss what the measurements show about the water around them.
Environmental Awareness
Through hands-on field work, students build understanding of environmental health and the factors that affect local water quality.
Community Education
Findings and methods are shared with communities to help people better understand the water they rely on.

Connect Safe Water is led by student founders and leaders who connect their research experience with community-focused work. Their involvement reflects the ConnectSTEM pathway from research into initiative and leadership.
